Promoting Positive Learning Motivation & Change
Continuous Professional Development

About Life Change UK - Working to reduce anti-social behaviour, social exclusion, re-offending, unemployment and 'skillessness'
'Fusion' - A Devon consortia addressing anti-social behaviour - see below
Life Change UK is a not-for-profit company providing unique and innovative training in understanding and managing challenging behaviour. Following their considerable experience at C-FAR delivering community based residential programmes of rehabilitation for young adult persistent male offenders, the Directors of Life Change UK have designed an innovative programme of training to help others understand and develop their skills in maintaining positive relationships and managing challenging behaviour.

When used in support of the Lifelong Learning UK Sector Skills Council's professional development framework, work based learning and CPD, you will quickly see and appreciate the positive impact upon you and your staff team. The courses provide a personal journey enabling participants to rapidly gain new skills and understanding, facilitating positive change in themselves and those with whom they work and support.

Recently part funded by the LSC, Devon County Council and Learning South West (SWitch CETT), the programme provides a meaningful insight into why people behave as they do, as well as a range of essential skills and tools to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive change. Importantly, it promotes confidence and reduces levels of stress and anxiety, enabling participants to understand how their own perceptions, attitudes, agendas and communication skills impact upon their relationships with clients / students and the delivery of their work.

What Young Devon's Youth Workers say: -

"I thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from the Life Change UK training. It has helped me to look differently at the way I work with young people, recognizing how my perceptions and feelings have impacted upon my approach and how I dealt with it. Too often in the past I have attempted a quick fix, not appreciating that clients often feel safe living in a chaotic state and that it can often suit them to resist change. Recognising this has enabled me to see how I can work more effectively and help more young people in the future. I think it is important that all those working with challenging clients should be given this type of training." - Sophie
I found this training hugely valuable and relevant to my job and life. It was clearly explained with many opportunities to discuss. - Dan
The Course made me think more in depth about my actions and others. - Sarah

'The Fusion Project>' - A consortia approach in Devon to Reduce Anti-social Behaviour and challenge negative attitudes towards Devon's Young Citizens
With Devon County Council >, Young Devon >, The Ivy Project >, Daisi >, Devon Racial Equality Council >, Devon & Cornwall Police > and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service >, Life Change UK is currently involved in a new partnership aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour within targetted areas of the County. The project includes a range of activities designed to engage, motivate and divert young people towards more positve activities as well as reducing the percpetions and fears of local communities. Life Change UK will deliver capacity training to staff of the various organisations as well as work with parents, young people and leaders of communities.
"Following our training with Life Change UK, I and fellow Young Devon workers have already used many of the new skills to good effect. During an anti-bullying session with a particularly challenging youth inclusion group we used various new models of intervention, including the Drama Triangle and personal affirmations. The response from the young people was very positive and encouraging. They embraced the session enthusiastically, so much so that they are now planning to make a film to highlight bullying issues and to reflect their own experiences as to how they can change their situations when needed. The Life Change UK training has been very valuable, increasing my personal confidence in my work as well providing a range of new interventions that I will use to help young people change their behaviour". The course was much better and more enjoyable than I imagined it would be. - Clarise
